An up-close test drive and review of the new 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 with Chris Moran from AutoMedia. Vehicle courtesy of the Webb Boys at Packey Webb Ford in Downers Grove. Stop in and see them! Let’s recap: The 2010 Ford Mustang hit dealers about a year ago with comprehensive upgrades to its styling, quality, suspension and brakes, but not its power trains, which have remained largely unaltered since 2005. There was a crappy, 4.0-liter 210 HP V6 no one but teenage girls and rental fleets bought and then there was the old-as-nails 4.6-liter V8 which made only 315 HP. That V8 was fun to use and sounded great, but as soon as the new 426 HP Camaro SS showed up last summer, Ford was left eating Chevy’s dust. Making things worse, the Camaro also comes with a V6 which makes 304 HP, nearly as much as the old Mustang GT’s V8. Sadly (for Ford at least) engine development didn’t keep up with model development and last year’s Mustang wasn’t as fast as it needed to be. For 2011, the Mustang is coming with a fitting tribute to its founder — Donald Frey — who died earlier this weekend — two new engines: a 3.7-liter V6 using variable inlet and exhaust valve timing to achieve both big power and torque figures – 305 HP and 280 Lb-Ft – but also impressive fuel economy – 31 MPG highway/19 MPG city with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The 5.0-liter Coyote V8 uses the same technology to make 412 HP and 390 Lb-Ft, but still manages a respectable 26 MPG highway/ 17 MPG city. The Coyote …

Maybe you should get your facts straight. Since your quite the engineer, what exactly does a “cam” do? I’ll tell you. A “cam” (or camshaft to be exact) actuates the VALVETRAIN in a modern overhead valve engine. A variable cam lobe can actually change the lift timing for the valves through the rev range to optimize performance and economy, which is “variable valve timing”. So, thanks for unnecessarily putting me in my place, and thanks for getting your facts straight.
I would like you to get your facts straight… It’s not Variable valve timing … It called twin independent Variable CAM timing.
@chronovan420 If you really have to say all that, something tells me you have a problem with women.
Get whatever transmission you want. The automatics in these cars, with a good tune, can be pretty godlike at the track.
Car looks like an angry old man
Price ?
@js441 Do you have it yet?
Just beautiful!! I won’t die before i get one of these!!! MUSTANG ROCKS!!!!!! cheers from Ecuador awesome machine!!! =)
@gr8oli Go kill yourself.
First off… I really enjoy your detailed reviews! I wanted to ask you your thoughts on the Mustang’s shifter? I’ve read on some forums how people say it’s “Notchy” but just watching you go through the gears seem so smooth and effort less. Does it shift as smooth as it looked? Thanks for your thoughts!!
Finally a review that was worth watching, thank you for the upload man
..Subscribed!
Manual=MAN UP!!! only way to drive a Mustang, PERIOD.
@MrMexican182
Your kidding right?? This is a BEAST sports car…if you get it in an automatic then your either a massive tool or a woman. The 6-speed is boss in this car, I had a chance to drive one and the powerband through the RPM range was beautiful…(all the way up to it’s 7000 redline!)
Manual transmissions are for men, automatics are for women in their grocery grabbers. (and If a woman drives a manny that’s hot)
It just allows you to actually DRIVE the car, instead of just steering. It
which do you recommend? the automatic transmission or manual transmission because I will buy one in December
Could you please also do a review of the 2012 Boss Mustang 302? Thanks!
the black paint job looks incredible
@BuiltFordTough2011 not many people like people who drive automatic. if u gonna get an automatic be sure to get ready for some hate mail.
Beautiful car.
@BuiltFordTough2011 if you can’t drive a manual you shouldn’t be driving a mustang, if don’t know how to you should learn how to
@AutomotiveMediaGroup hows this car pull? were you really put back in your seat during the acceleration test?
The 392 on the srt8 is not for horsepower. geez.and yea this mustang is the best car evermade.
@BuiltFordTough2011 If you cant drive a stick there are 2 options. Learn and enjoy a real driving experience or dont buy one. Automatics should be illegal.
better than the 2011 dodge challenger srt8 with 392 hp this mustang is better
It is easy to learn stick. I’m 36 and just learned last year by finding a driving school that taught it. I tell you, I wish I did it years ago because driving stick is a lot of fun.
@rygo30
If you call that abuse, I wouldn’t buy a Mustang GT either. Hence the reason that I so strongly recommend the car, it’s amazing.
